What We Learned in Ecuador + Pictures!
What we produce here, we export overseas. Let's export the best to our brothers and sisters in Christ.
Two weeks ago last Sunday, Daniel and I boarded a plane for Quito, Ecuador and spent the week visiting friends who serve in the Northern Andes with a missions organization called Reaching and Teaching. I also taught on the psalms for a women’s conference they put on with a local church in the area. Women came from all over area to study God’s word, and we’re still reflecting on how God moved in our own hearts after seeing his work in Ecuador. We walked away with this verse ringing in our ears:
The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few (Matt. 9:37).
The needs for more hands at the plow are immense. There are so few churches, and even fewer trained people in local churches who can aid in discipleship. Missionaries need encouragement that their labors are not in vain, but they also need more people to go to assist in the work of making disciples of all nations. Discipleship work is long, painful, and often takes years—or a lifetime—to see results. In America we see that play out in our local churches, but then you add the barrier of another language and culture, and the challenges are even greater. We came home with renewed faith in God’s work in the global church to see it in action for those few days we were in Ecuador.
